Vinted buyers are receiving parcels in VERY strange packaging

If you received a baby's nappy through your letterbox, you'd likely be confused (or perhaps even enraged) but for some people who have bought second hand clothes online, that's exactly what has happened.

Vinted, a thrift app where people can buy and sell old items in an online marketplace, has had a meteoric rise to success, quickly becoming a billion-euro company taking on other rival e-commerce sites such as Depop and eBay.

And while many sellers may take unusual routes to sell their items - such as using the likes of a cardboard David Attenborough to model their clothes -  some have also taken quite an unusual approach to packaging their items.

From wallets wrapped up in baby nappies to crisp packets and even pizza boxes, it appears anything and everything goes when it comes to the packaging in which items are sent. 

A slew of videos have emerged on TikTok with buyers - who were likely expecting standard brown parcel - totally astonished by their deliveries.

From wallets wrapped up in baby nappies (left) to crisp packets (right) and even pizza boxes, it appears no holes are barred when it comes to what an item is sent in.

Some have revealed their items were wrapped up in cereal and Cornetto boxes as well as Barilla pasta packaging.

Martina Darling from Suffolk was less than pleased when she discovered her item arrived to her door packaged in plastic bin bags. 

'So I've just picked up two parcels from Vinted and I honestly don't know why I worry when I send parcels,' she fumed.

Pointing to the clear bag on her passenger seat, she added: 'This one is obviously just a paper bag with cling film round as in like an Aldi bag and this is just a bin bag.

'Honestly I don't know why I go to so much effort of getting nice packaging for people.'

However others have been left in floods of laughter after coming across their strange Vinted parcels.

Sophie, 30, from South Wales, was in fits of giggles when a dress she had ordered from the e-commerce site arrived in a transparent take-away box.

'I love Vinted but I have just picked up a parcel and it's been delivered in a takeaway box its a dress,' the mother laughed: 'That's brilliant.'

'It's literally in a takeaway box. What is the weirdest thing you have had your parcels delivered in? Because this is by far the weirdest thing I have had delivered.'

Several of her followers chimed in, quipping that it was 'okay to send things in anything from Vinted.' 

To which Sophie responded: 'There are NO rules when it comes to Vinted packaging.'

Another added: 'I used to buy post bags until someone sent me something in an ASDA bag so I now do the same.' 

But a takeaway tin may not be the strangest Vinted package yet, as Beth Howen, 22, collected her new pair of trainers in two separate Boots' pharmacy bags. 

'No I'm sorry but this Vinted packaging tops the lot so far,' the shocked youngster penned: 'I'm intrigued to see if anyone can top this.'

She previously had received another pair of shoes from the site encased in two thin bright-green plastic Co-op bags.

People also flocked to the comment section of her clip to share their own bizarre experiences with the site.

'I work in a store that sends Vinted parcels and literally had someone drop their parcel off in a Greggs pasty bag,' one shared.

A second quipped: 'I got a bad review because I wrapped it in Christmas paper like???'

'Someone wrapped my parcel in two GCSE maths books,' another Vinted shopper revealed, whilst one said: 'I had a coat send in a dog food box and it honked so bad.'

Whilst using pizza boxes and nappies may be comical to some, Tiny Box Company founder Rachel Watkyn OBE advises against sending in items in food boxes due to the impact debris can have on your products.

She told MailOnline: 'Your last Amazon box or last box you received something in is the perfect packaging to reuse. 

'You should reuse where you can rather than buying packaging however ugly or weird it might look.'

Rachel instructed sellers to inform their customers if they were going to reuse less conventional forms of packaging.

According to Vinted's rules parcels should be put in a 'sturdy outer packaging' such as a cardboard box, so the delivery can arrive in a good condition and be protected from dirt during transit.

The e-commerce site also requires users to wrap the items with the appropriate inner packaging to prevent deliveries moving around and breaking.
